The Humane Society and all of our local animal rescue organizations
accept volunteers. In fact, volunteers make it all possible.
Without community donations of time, money and food, most
local organizations would not exist. Stuff envelopes, walk
dogs, answer phones, donate food, or even money. It all saves
lives. What can you give?
Some of the organizations with whom you can volunteer are
listed below:
Friends For Life Animal Rescue
Friends For Life Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization
dedicated to ending the suffering and killing of homeless
companion animals in Humboldt County and beyond through

in permanent, loving, adoptive homes, (2) reduce the number
of dogs and cats being born, and (3) enrich the human-animal
bond. www.dogrescuers.org

Humboldt Wildlife Care Center
The Humboldt Wildlife Care Center, established in 1979, is
a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, treatment,
and rehabilitation of orphaned or injured native wildlife.
The ultimate goal of HWCC is to release the treated animals
back into the wild. Trained volunteers, with access to
veterinary help, treat a wide range of injuries incurred
mostly from human contact (i.e. gunshot wounds, vehicular
impacts, etc.) The HWCC receives and treats all native
species including protected and endangered wildlife, with
the exception of mountain lions, bears, and adult deer.
Through the dedicated work of volunteers, many native animals,
especially birds, are successfully released every month.
HWCC treats over 800 mammals and birds every year.

Heart of the Redwoods Horse Rescue
Heart of the Redwoods Horse Rescue is a California 501 (c)
(3) nonprofit. Our mission is primarily rescuing abused,
neglected, or unwanted horses, bringing them back to health,
and then adopting them out to loving homes. "Ensuring
quality care and treatment of horses through rehabilitation,
humane education, and community outreach." The rescue
also has a human education component to the mission that
focuses on horse/human interaction and is currently reflected
in the Horsemanship I and II clinics run by the rescue.
These clinics are focused on developing a relationship
between humans and horses that comes from trust in each
other and confidence in themselves. And from a practical
sense the clinics focus on basic horsemenship and safety
skills.

The BONES Rescue Group
The BONES rescue group was formed to serve the needs of homeless,
neglected, and abused animals in the Round Valley area. "Our
goal is to rescue, rehabilitate, and place these animals
into loving homes."
Our rescued pets are kept in our homes as members of our
families, they are never kept in kennels. Most of our pets
have been abandoned or abused. We give them the TLC necessary
to become trusting again. They are healthy, happy and well
adjusted and are ready for forever homes.
