KEET/KHUM Present: Lost Coast Sessions.
3-20-10 UPDATE: A total success. LCS raised more money for KEET than the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss/Steve Martin/Madeliene Peyroux concert special.
______________
The music show pilot came together as a collaboration between KEET-TV and KHUM-FM to create a North Coast version of the highly popular and long-running PBS series Austin City Limits. Soon after KEET executive director Ron Schoenherr green-lighted the pilot, others were brought into the process.
Even a Hollywood director participated in the production. With the experience of directing 21 Soul Train episodes with legends such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, The Jackson 5
and Elton John under his belt, veteran television director J.D. Lobue flew himself to Eureka to volunteer to direct the program for the North Coast PBS station.
KHUM-FM’s announcer / program and music director, Mike Dronkers and announcer / assistant program director Larry Trask recorded the sound
and collaborated with KEET director of production, Sam Greene on the editing.
Arcata-based artist, Lush Newton, created the set. Graphic designer and illustrator, Zeke Smith, designed the LOST COAST SESSIONS logo artwork. Ukesperience agreed to be the guinea pig band for the pilot. Many other community members volunteered as camera operators or loaned items for the set. LOST COAST SESSIONS is a true community effort and a real labor of love.
Formed in 2006, Ukesperience blends folk and rock with a tropical twist. The ukulele-based group features unique, custom, innovative instruments in ukulele form.
Joe Koches is on concert uke and lead vocals. Jason Hodel plays tenor uke, lapsteel, and electric uke. Tim Johnston plays bass and also custom makes some of the ukes, including his bass ukuleles, the lapsteel uke, and the electric uke. Dave Sandomeno plays percussion, and Nick Moore is on drums. Ukesperience was the only US mainland performers invited to the 2008 Waikoloa Ukulele Festival on the Big Island of Hawaii.
