SCRAP Artist in Residence Hunt

SCRAP Humboldt is seeking talented artists, who highlight the world of creative reuse in their art making practice, to apply to their first ever an Artist in Residence! As a non-profit on a mission to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community, SCRAP is always looking for way to engage with makers and creative re-thinkers. SCRAP is offering two, two month long artist residencies this fall, September-October and November-December. This program will provide the time and space for guest artists to develop a body of creative reuse work and creatively explore new ideas incorporating a minimum of 70% creatively reused material, that might not be traditionally employed in their own art making practice. Each artist will be challenged to reimagine everyday materials from accordion folders to zippers into works to be shown in an exhibition at the end of the residency. SCRAP is looking for professional, emerging and students artists who work in any medium, including and not limited to jewelry, sculpture, fiber arts and mixed media. SCRAP will provide a studio workspace, available for the artist to work in during open store hours, Monday through Saturday noon-6pm. Each artist will have access to a wide multitude of raw materials available to in SCRAP’s retail store for creative reuse purposes and will receive a monthly stipend of $150 for materials. Each artist is asked to be in studio for a minimum of 4 hours a week with the hours posted so the public can view the creative reuse process. Each artist will lead an interactive class, lecture, or demonstration talking about their art making process or hold workshop teaching one of their creative reuse techniques. SCRAP Humboldt feels that the world is full of creative reuse potential and the materials selected and manipulated by each artist will propel the objects from ordinary to extraordinary!
