Rare Fruits with Sam Polly

Join the Humboldt Permaculture Guild Tuesday Jan 22 at the HSU Campus Center for Appropriate Technology at 5:30 for a look at unique fruits that grow in our region. Local edible plant expert Sam Polly will share info on a few plants you hear very little about including propagation techniques and general maintenance. Also, come learn how to be a part of our 6th Annual Fruit Tree Scion Exchange, which will be held on Saturday Feb 9th at the Bayside Community Hall. It’s time to prep your fruitwood for our Scion Exchange. Here are some tips for collecting scion: -Cut only past year’s growth (no wood older than one year). -Store in plastic bag with moistened paper in dark and cool location -Label well (variety, location growing, original source, taste, when ripe). -Asian plums/pears and peaches wake up first so cut these as soon as possible. -Apples and European pears and plums can be cut a week or so before the exchange.
