Ocean Night - River Night Takeover!
April 12th we will be screening Water + Oil, 7 Rivers Expedition, and numerous short North Coast videos by Dan Menten, a local whitewater kayaker and North Coast Guidebook author. Water + Oil documents a kayaking and surfing road trip down as "two kayakers embark on the longest-ever biofuels-only road trip 35,000 kilometers from Alaska to Argentina in a retro-fitted Japanese fire truck named Baby. They followed an endless summer journey for over a year kayaking and surfing along the way through 16 countries. They collaborated with schools, local governments, farmers and media to conduct demonstrations advocating for the use of renewable energy along the way." 7 Rivers Expedition film highlights individuals kayaking the 7 multi-day high sierra runs. Hear from local water groups about river-related news, issues, or victories in our area. Our raffle will include a life jacket from Kokotat, a Guidebook from Dan Menton, and other river gear! Doors at 6:30/film at 7pm at Arcata Theater Lounge. $3 suggested donation and free to NEC/Humboldt Baykeeper/Humboldt Surfrider members. Ocean Night is a collaboration between the Northcoast Environmental Center, Humboldt Baykeeper, and Humboldt Surfrider - all proceeds go to these organizations.
