Evolution of Water Work in the Mattole Headwaters Hike/Tour
Join Sanctuary Forest on Saturday, September 30 for the Evolution of Water Work in the Mattole Headwaters Tour, led by Tasha McKee and Cam Thompson. Participants will be introduced to several restoration sites in the upper Mattole River, including our Baker Creek String of Pearls ponds as well as two pond sites in Lost River. We’ll discuss the status of salmonids in the Mattole and the history of our work, groundwater recharge, geology challenges, lessons learned and future directions.
Meet at the Sanctuary Forest office in Whitethorn at 10 a.m., the tour will end by 3 p.m. Bring lunch, plenty of water, dress in layers and wear sturdy hiking shoes. This hike will be Moderate but short and will be a slow-moving tour over uneven ground with lots of time for discussion, as well as travel between multiple sites. Participants will have the opportunity to carpool. This hike is free of charge, though donations are gladly accepted and help Sanctuary Forest to offer this program year after year.
