Cage Match: Raising Arizona vs. Face/Off

Join the Eureka Theater for the ultimate Cage match: a double-feature of Nicolas Cage movies with all the mutton chops and eccentric antics that have made him a mainstream and cult star.

If ex-con Nic is your favorite Cage, buckle up for the 1987 Coen Brothers comedy Raising Arizona, in which our mercurial hero’s sleepy-eyed mugshot pose wins the heart of a police officer played by Holly Hunter. The baby bump in the road comes when they can’t conceive and decide to nab one of a set of quintuplets. Between sticking up stores for diapers, evading a Mad Max-esque baby retriever and coping with old friends who’ve recently broken out of prison, well, it ain’t Ozzie and Harriet.

Or maybe you prefer wild-eyed, cackling Cage? Do a double take when he stars opposite John Travolta in John Woo’s over-the-top 1997 action film Face/Off. It’s both a masterpiece and totally nuts. In it, a notorious terrorist switches faces with the FBI agent on his trail. Don’t worry about how, just dig the classic Woo chases, double-fisted shootouts, Mexican stand-offs and doves. And enjoy the trippy experience of watching Travolta play Cage and Cage play Travolta, while peak ‘90s Gina Gershon and Joan Allen play their puzzled partners.

Generously sponsored by Carson Park Design. Tickets are a budget-friendly $8.00 for both movies. Doors open at 6:30, Raising Arizona starts at 7:00, there will be a short intermission, Face/Off shows at approximately 8:45.
